What’s the Noise Issue?
Recent Yonkers Policy Changes Have Put Our Health at Risk
The new 85-decibel daytime limit is EIGHT times louder than the previous 55-decibel limit. This level can cause hearing damage with prolonged exposure.
At 85 decibels, Yonkers now has one of the least restrictive noise ordinances in the nation.
The new 65-decibel nighttime limit is TWICE as loud as the previous 50-decibel limit. The World Health Organization recommends nighttime noise levels not exceed 40 decibels.

”The literature linking noise to adverse mental and physical health is strong enough so that actions need to be taken to lessen noise pollution. The goal is to come up with noise ordinances that will enhance health by creating a quieter society. Look at New York City before they updated the noise code. Do you know how many hearings they had? And that they formed a committee? They put citizens on the committee. You think New York just updated its noise code with no input?
